Browns vs Texans: 3 key Houston players expected out in Week 16 due to injuries

CJ Stroud, Will Anderson Jr. and Blake Cashman being out would help Cleveland’s playoff push

NFL: Denver Broncos at Houston Texans Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns have been the highly injured team throughout the season starting in Week 1 with OL Jack Conklin and Week 2 with RB Nick Chubb. Several key players followed them to the injured reserve including Deshaun Watson, Jedrick Wills, Dawand Jones, Maurice Hurst, Rodney McLeod and Grant Delpit.

Only Delpit has a chance of returning this season while DE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo has the team holding out hope he can play sometime this year despite reports he’d head to injured reserve.

In Week 16 against the Houston Texans, QB CJ Stroud was not expected to play when he didn’t move ahead in concussion protocol on Wednesday.

Stroud being out was reinforced on Thursday but we also learned that DE Will Anderson Jr. and LB Blake Cashman were also not expected to play Sunday:

Anderson, a rookie, has five sacks this season with 19 quarterback hits and eight tackles for loss. Cashman is a versatile linebacker who has played in 72% of Houston’s defensive snaps and 25% of their special teams.

Cashman has 87 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five QB hits, two sacks, five passes defended and a fumble recovery this year.

We will get the full injury report later this afternoon and official game designations on Friday.
