Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah joins Browns top 10 list in important stat before end of 3rd season

Browns history being made around the team this year

Week 16 of the Cleveland Browns 2023 NFL season will be known as the Amari Cooper game but that isn’t all that mattered.

  • The Browns moved their record to 10-5, almost securing a playoff spot for this season
  • QB Joe Flacco delivered the ball to Cooper where it needed to be
  • Cleveland’s defense, until the third stringers got in, produced on the road
  • Browns fans got a mostly relaxing win on Christmas Eve

Cleveland’s defense has been most of the talk this year with DE Myles Garrett and LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah having the most impact.

JOK in particular has had a breakout season with a better defensive line, specifically the defensive tackle group, in front of him. He already has the most tackles (90), pass breakups (6), sacks (3.5), QB hits (5) and interceptions of his career.

The biggest jump for the Notre Dame linebacker is in tackles for loss. Last year, Owusu-Koramoah had seven. This year, with two games left, he has 18. He’s just a few TFL’s away from the team’s best season in that category:

With his huge season, JOK has already jumped into the top 10 in that category in Cleveland’s history. Now, to be fair, tackles for loss were not counted until 1994 but that is all we have to go on at this point.

Since 1994, Garrett leads the way with 93 while JOK sits at 10th with 28. While Garrett’s mark seems unlikely to be caught, it is impressive to see Owusu-Koramoah so high before finishing his third season.

For reference, Orpheus Roye (44) and Jamir Miller (40) are the only Browns defenders at or above 40 tackles for loss in Browns history. JOK should join them in the top three next season.

How surprised are you by JOK’s performance this year? Does his place since 1994 in TFLs surprise you?
