Jags Saturday news could be an indicator of Trevor Lawrence’s Sunday status

CJ Beathard and, now, Nathan Rourke could be facing the Browns in Week 14

The Cleveland Browns seem likely to start QB Joe Flacco this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars but QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson is still listed as QB1 in Week 14. Flacco isn’t even on the Browns active roster.

Questions remain for the Jaguars as well for this week’s matchup with QB Trevor Lawrence getting injured on Monday Night Football but returning to the field to practice, on a limited basis, on Thursday and Friday.

Lawrence is listed as questionable on the final injury report while DTR was cleared from concussion protocol.

QB CJ Beathard and Nathan Rourke are the other two Jacksonville quarterbacks with the former likely to get the start if Lawrence can’t play. Saturday, the latter was signed to the Jaguars active roster which could indicate that the team’s star QB is not playing on Sunday:

Having Rourke on the roster also allows him to be listed as the team’s emergency quarterback. If he was on the practice squad, that would not be permitted.

We shared a little about Beathard’s history in our scouting report on Jacksonville. If Lawrence can’t play, the three players we identified as keys would have even bigger responsibilities on Sunday.

With rainfall expected, the Jaguars could play it safe with Lawrence’s injury in order to keep him healthy for the final four weeks of the year and for the playoffs.

Rourke starred for the Ohio Bobcats in college. Last year, in the CFL, the 6’2” quarterback completed 79% of his passes for over 3,000 yards with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also showed an ability to make plays with his legs.

Do you think signing Rourke to the active roster off of their practice squad indicates Lawrence is unlikely to play this week?
