Browns rule out 7 starters for Sunday

Joe Flacco, Amari Cooper, Myles Garrett among the big names ruled out

NFL: New York Jets at Cleveland Browns Scott Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns have made it clear that the only thing that matters in Week 18 is coming out healthy. The team isn’t worried about rust going into the NFL playoffs Wild Card round.

HC Kevin Stefanski announced that QB Jeff Driskel will start just seven days after first reports of being signed off the Arizona Cardinals practice squad. QB Joe Flacco will not play with PJ Walker continuing as the backup.

We broke down what the team’s depth chart could look like on Sunday with as many starters resting as possible.

This week’s injury report also added to the plan to rest players.

While we await the official and full injury report going into Week 18’s matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, Stefanski announced the following players will join Flacco on the sideline this weekend:

  • DE Myles Garrett (who was “sore” on Friday)
  • CB Greg Newsome II
  • S Juan Thornhill
  • LB Anthony Walker Jr.
  • WR Amari Cooper
  • CB Mike Ford
  • K Dustin Hopkins

Garrett has been dealing with injuries most of the season while the rest are ruled out with a combination of injuries and a plan to rest veterans.

We will update the full injury report as it becomes available this afternoon.
